“Snowflake Bently” by Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Snowflake Bently is about Wilson Bently, the first person to photograph snowflakes. He was always interested in them and their shape but could never show them off because they would melt too quickly. He was given a camera, and was finally able to share the beauty of nature, but many didn’t care, saying that snow is so common, why would they need to see pictures of it? But even still, he photographed as many snowflakes as he could, unable to use bright lights, or breathe on them, or move too suddenly, or it would be gone forever. He made lots of money from colleges from far and wide using his pictures, and all of his money was spent to further his photography and document even more.

This could be used in lessons on many different facets of science. How snow forms in the sky, how it melts, and the shapes snowflakes can be. This can also be a lesson in symmetry and shapes.
