“The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt

This is a very funny and cute book and is a great way to introduce students to using crayons responsibly. It follows a series of letters sent to a young boy using crayons in a way that the crayons are not happy about. This presents a potentially new material in a way that ensures children will use them responsibly, such as not pressing too hard or removing the paper wrapper.

This book would be a great lesson for very young students- those who might be exposed to crayons for the first time. They will need to learn how to properly treat them, especially if they are the school’s property. It is also just a funny story that could get kids interested in and engaged with using crayons.
