“I Am the Seed That Grew the Tree” selected by Fiona Waters

This is a lovely collection of children’s poems, one for each day of the year. The poems were chosen because they are approachable and appealing to children, and they are about nature. Aside from generally appealing to younger audiences, the poems vary in length and complexity, meaning that there is going to be something in this collection for everyone.

I believe this collection is great, not only because of the adaptability of the material for different age groups, but because the days follow the seasons as they change. Using this in a classroom can inspire kids to absorb nature more powerfully and be mindful of the subtle changes between seasons, which would be a great way to inspire a curiosity and interest in nature, something that a lot of kids are not growing up with.
