“The Girl Who Makes a Million Mistakes” by Brenda Li

This book is about Millie, a girl who can’t seem to do anything without messing it up. She tries “a million” different activities and never does them right. By the end, she is able to redeem her poor performance in track and field and gets first place. It not only shows that mistakes are okay, but also that mistakes can be good. Without doing things wrong, she would never have learned how to do them correctly and she grows as a result of all her mistakes. This book teaches that mistakes are natural and instrumental to progress.

Millie’s unwavering determination is very inspiring. This is a fantastic lesson for children to learn when they are young. This can be part of a larger lesson about growth mindsets and how to cope with failure, or engaging in discussion about a time in everyone’s lives when they got better at something they used to be bad at.
