“Love, Violet” by Charlotte Sullivan Wild
Love, Violet, winner of the 2023 Stonewall Book Award, tells the story of Violet on Valentine’s Day, too shy to give her valentine to her crush, Mira. Violet thinks Mira is She makes a special one and puts a lot of effort into it, only for it to fly out of her hands and get trampled in the snow. Violet, embarrassed and a bit ashamed, gives it to Mira anyway. Mira happily accepts, and they go on all the adventures a child could ask for.
This, of course, would make a lovely (pun intended) Valentine’s Day story to read with a class. It represents a queer story and normalizes it for children, which is always valuable and appreciated.
